Hi Annie,
re; the car for me - trip to England and Ireland for you deal. You do do the lottery don't you?

Just checking.

Pudding - Rum Baba (cake with rum syrup over top)
Jello - the strawberry jelly just below custard in trifle
Salad dressing - My own olive oil/lemon juice/pepper mix
Dried fruit - Absolutely adore sultana's NOT currants
Spice - Black pepper
Seafood - Scallops, salmon, King Prawn all together on a skewer on a BBQ
Steak cut - Sirloin (with black pepper sauce)
Potato preperation - CHIPS (French fries)
Candy that comes in small pieces - M&M's
Pie - Bacon, Onion, Cheese and Potato (homemade had it last night for first time ever)

Annie, what about some good Iowa recipes, you did say you'd do some.

Bear in mind some things need translating, you say jello, we say jelly!

How's the job hunting going?

Rgds
Ian

Yes , Ian,I've noticed we have differences in what we call certain foods. Your jellies puddings, cakes, bisquits and pies are not the same as ours.
Our pudding is a cream based smooth custard, cake is a sweet flour batter baked usually with frosting on top, bisquits are not crackers or cookies, they are flour and shortening blended and baked up fluffy served with gravy or a jam on top. Our pie is usually a crust filled with fruit or cream pudding. We do have things like Shephards pie and chicken pot pie which are filled with meat and veggies, but we call them casseroles. Jelly and Jello are different things also.
What kinds of Iowa recipes would you like? I'm big on baking and making casseroles.

Hi Annie,
there are some differences,
we (in the north) call anything hot and sweet after your main meal as pudding! cookies and biscuits are the same to us dry, sweet, hard made with flour. Pies can be fruit, or veg, or meat and veg or just meat. Casseroles are gravy and stock with meat and veg in, like a thin soup type thing with large chunks in, no pastry or top.

Crazy isn't it. Two countries divided by a common language.
Regarding recipes, I'm not into baking (we class that as bread or cakes) but casseroles sound good.
Do you look at 10 Signs like This, link on my page, Jamie grows her own stuff and cooks it, lucky lady.
